Inspiration
With the rise of Tiktok, Instagram Stories and Youtube Shorts new types of content is becoming increasingly popular. It turns out for example, that random clips from movies often vastly outperform trailers in terms of user engagement and popularity - especially for older movies. We want to use this, to encourage our users to share their choice of tv show with a few clicks.
What it does
Our WebApp enables users to quickly share clips of the show they are currently enjoying with their friends, their community, even with total strangers reaching a wide audience. Our app allows users to share memorable scenes easily with just the name and a timestamp. At last a link to the streampicker website added to every post. This help interested viewers look up what they are watching and where to steam it while simultaneously driving traffic to the website. While not only allowing users to save their valuable time scrolling comments just to find a name, which they can do only with a click with our app,
To enhance user enjoyement we also added a scoreboard to the App where users can show off the number of friends they could convince to watch their all-time favourite shows, gamifying the whole process.
How we built it
We built our our Application as a WebApp using Angular as the frontend and flask as the backend.
Challenges we ran into
We were facing lots of technical difficulties getting our project to run smoothly since a lot of the technologies used were new to us.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We were actually able to power through our exhaustion and complete our prototype before the deadline which took almost all night.
What we learned
Deciding on what technologies to use before the actual hackaton can be helpfull to get the team up to speed faster.
What's next for ClipCurator
After convincing a big player in the steaming market to grant us access to their library, the next step probably be releasing a beta version to a small community and see to what extent it is useful to our users.
