The Problem
Creating short-form content is no longer just about recording a video. After recording, creators still have to transcribe and caption the video, choose an engaging thumbnail, write supporting content, and decide when to publish it.
These repetitive steps take significant time and make it difficult for creators to maintain a consistent publishing schedule.
Our Solution
ClipCraft is an AI-powered social media content automation platform that turns a raw video into ready-to-publish content through a single workflow.
Instead of switching between multiple tools, creators can:
Upload a video → Generate captions → Edit and burn captions → Create a thumbnail → Schedule the post
ClipCraft brings these steps together in one platform.
What ClipCraft Does
- AI Caption Generation — Converts video speech into time-synchronized captions.
- Caption Editor — Allows creators to review and modify generated captions before exporting.
- Caption Burning — Embeds the finalized captions directly into the video.
- Smart Thumbnail Creation — Extracts useful frames from the video and helps create an engaging thumbnail with AI-generated headline suggestions.
- Social Media Scheduling — Lets creators prepare and schedule content for platforms such as Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, and X.
- Creator Dashboard — Provides an overview of processed videos, generated captions, scheduled posts, and recent activity.
How We Built It
We built ClipCraft as a full-stack web application with a modern React-based frontend and a backend responsible for media processing, AI workflows, and scheduling.
The video-processing pipeline uses FFmpeg for tasks such as extracting audio, generating video frames, and burning captions into the final video.
AI is used to transform raw video information into useful creator assets, including transcriptions and thumbnail headline suggestions.
A lightweight database stores projects, captions, and scheduled posts, allowing the dashboard and scheduler to maintain the user's content workflow.
What Inspired Us
We were inspired by a simple observation: creators spend a lot of time on the work around creating content rather than actually creating it.
A single short video can require several separate tools before it is ready to publish. We wanted to reduce that friction and make the journey from raw footage to scheduled content much simpler.
Challenges We Faced
One of our biggest challenges was connecting multiple stages of media processing into one reliable workflow. Video uploads, audio extraction, transcription, frame extraction, caption rendering, thumbnail generation, and scheduling all have different processing requirements.
Another challenge was keeping the experience simple despite the complexity happening behind the scenes. We focused on presenting creators with a clear workflow instead of exposing unnecessary technical complexity.
What We Learned
Building ClipCraft taught us how to combine AI, multimedia processing, backend APIs, databases, and frontend UX into a single practical application.
More importantly, we learned that automation is most useful when it removes several small repetitive tasks together rather than automating only one isolated step.
The Result
ClipCraft demonstrates how AI and automation can transform a creator's workflow from:
Raw Video → Multiple Manual Tools → Ready to Publish
into:
Raw Video → ClipCraft → Ready to Publish
Our goal is simple: help creators spend less time preparing content and more time creating it.
