The "Climate Equity Map NYC" is an interactive data visualization tool that would identify neighborhoods with the highest climate vulnerability (flooding and extreme heat) while analyzing the current distribution of green infrastructure to highlight priority areas for future investments and give a platform to community voices. This map could serve as a powerful advocacy and planning tool for communities disproportionately affected by climate change, particularly low-income and BIPOC neighborhoods.Key Components:

Overlays climate vulnerability data with existing green infrastructure to reveal inequities
Identifies "climate infrastructure deserts" across NYC
Incorporates both quantitative data analysis and community narratives
Prioritizes historically underserved communities with limited resources

Why It Matters:

Extreme heat causes ~500 deaths annually in NYC (the leading weather-related cause of death)
Flooding disproportionately impacts environmental justice areas
Climate risks are exacerbated by historical patterns of discrimination and disinvestment
Strategic green infrastructure can significantly reduce climate vulnerability

The resulting tool will serve multiple stakeholders: community organizations advocating for equitable resource distribution, policymakers identifying priority investment areas, city agencies coordinating sustainability efforts, and residents understanding local climate risks.
