Making Climate Crisis was a true journey - it had all the ups and downs any adventure would have. As we had two people in our team who had taken APES and another member who had taken PITU, we felt confident going in to this challenge. However, brainstorming for ideas wouldn't be as easy as we thought. Torn between making a game and a website, our team got into heated arguments, taking one side or the other. After an hour or two, we came to a consensus to make a game that would be both fun and informative - quite the nice mix if I don't say so myself. Straight after that, we got into planning how the game would work. As planting trees was the simplest and best idea we had, we just went straight for that. We decided that the goal of the game would of course have to be battling the climate crisis - the biggest environmental problem in society today. However, the approach in how to do this was quite difficult to contemplate. Since we needed the game to be actually fun, we couldn't just have the user spamming a button. So, we decided to add some challenges, like actual character control (moving around, planting seeds), cooldowns, and even (semi) realistic natural disasters. This would not only make the game fun, but give the user an idea on how difficult fighting the climate crisis in real life actually might be. So, we split up into positions--two of our teammates going into graphical design (as we made a pixelated type game), and the other two (including me) were coders. With our exemplary teamwork, we were able to efficiently tackle down this beast of a project, and make something we were all proud of in the end. Bunking at one of our houses, pulling an all-nighter together, tackling all the logic errors, it was all worth it for the final satisfaction that is... Climate Crisis. We hope you enjoyed this game as much as we did making it, and I hope you have a great day. Peace.
