Inspiration

My teammates, Dakota Lewis and Tami Polo, and I, Dylan M. Van Horn, agreed that the events concerning climate change today will reap disastrous consequences for the future, and so we decided to take on building a website that addresses this.

What it does

The website allows users to view information from databases, news articles, etc. concerning climate change events, 'flag' one to give it more attention on the site, and post a project or idea on combating a certain event.

How we built it

We utilized the design tools of Figma to build the look of the site. Then, we used HTML and CSS to translate the design to displayable web pages. Finally, we implemented some JavaScript to give the site its interactivity.

Challenges we ran into

Every step presented us with challenges that were difficult but interesting. We had to learn how to use Figma to design the site for the first time. The design then had to be translated to HTML and CSS code, but Figma had no built-in code convertor. We also had to think of how exactly we were going to properly and effectively describe and implement the user interactivity with the site. We overcame all of these challenges by simply breaking down their components, critically analyzing them, and assigning tasks to each team member based on their skills.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Our first-time hacker team is most certainly proud of being given the opportunity to come together and submit a project that can pose a fight against the malicious intents of climate change.

What we learned

My teammates and I came to significantly understand our skillsets, how to work efficiently as a team under the pressure of time, and learn new approaches that build upon our skills.

What's next for Climate Conscious

We hope and want to expand upon our site or look to tackling other issues through an even more challenging technological medium!
