Climate Change Website

Inspiration

We were inspired to create a website to raise awareness about climate change. We wanted to show how different regions are affected, helping people understand the global impact. Our goal is to educate and inspire action towards protecting the environment.

What it does

The website provides climate change statistics for seven regions: North America, South America, Africa, Asia, Antarctica, Australia, and Europe. Users can choose a region from a dropdown, and see data like temperature increase and sea level rise. Each region also displays an image to make the information more engaging. There is also a Solutions page which has a dropdown of the different solutions people can do to make a difference in the world to reduce climate change.

How we built it

We first gathered data from credible sources about the different factors of climate change and its effect on each continent. Then we used Wix Velo to build the website, combining easy design tools with custom coding. The data gathered from our research is stored in a Wix database in a collection, and JavaScript is used to display the data when a region is selected. We linked images to each region to make it more visually appealing.

Challenges we ran into

It was a challenge to learn how to use Wix, as it was a first-time experience for all of the team members within our group, but fortunately, we were able to figure it out and create a functional website. Displaying different images and statistics based on the selected region was challenging, particularly in ensuring that the correct content loads without errors, was also a challenge, and took time to debug and fix.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We successfully created a website that’s both informative and easy to use. We figured out how to use Wix Velo to make the site interactive with dropdowns and dynamic data. We're proud of overcoming technical issues to deliver a functional and educational resource.

What we learned

We learned how to use Wix Velo to add custom features to a website. We gained more knowledge about climate change and how to present data effectively. We also improved our problem-solving skills when fixing errors with the data display.

What's Next for Climate Change Website

We plan to add more detailed statistics and interactive features like maps. We also want to include resources like articles and videos to educate users further. In the future, we hope to make the site available for mobile users and build a community around climate solutions.
