Inspiration
I was inspired by BuzzFeed quizzes, because they're always so fun to take. With this, I wanted to bring purpose while also making a quiz, so I decided on making a quiz that spread awareness on climate change, a topic that me and some of my friends are heavily involved in.
What it does
My project has two parts. The first is a 10 question quiz you can take to help understand whether you're contributing to climate change (as you may not know you are). The results not only show how green you are, but also include solutions that you can incorporate into your life to make you even more environmentally friendly. The second part is the why part. It's a fact generator that has a bunch of facts from NASA about climate change. My intention with this part was to influence you to take the advice from the first part.
How we built it
I used HTML CSS and JavaScript to build this. The CSS was for styling the website, which I used for the color palette. The JavaScript I used for interactivity on the website with the buttons. I used the HTML to have the basic framework of text on the website.
Challenges we ran into
Some of my functions in JavaScript weren't working, but it ended up being a tiny mistake like spelling something incorrectly or not including a bracket. I think the hardest part was ensuring that buttons were enabled and disabled correctly, but I eventually figured it out!
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I'm proud of the color theme and the disabling and enabling of buttons. It was a little tricky to pick out the colors that I felt went well together, while also making the project accessible so that the text was easy to read, but I think my color theme right now is pretty good. While the disabling and enabling of buttons was a little tricky, I feel it added to my project and I'm proud that I figured it out.
What we learned
I think I learned that there's always room to improve from this project. I started off with a simple 5 question quiz, which blossomed into 10 questions and a fact generator as well as enabling and disabling buttons. As I coded, I kept wanting more and more features and I'm super happy about that because I feel it enhanced my work.
What's next for Climate Change Project
I think that later on, I'd add more pages and a nav bar to the website. I'd put a list of facts on one page, ways to help on another, this quiz on another page and contact information on another. There's a lot of possibilities so it'll be super interesting to see how I can grow this project even more.
