Inspiration

We were inspired by the urgent need to improve climate literacy among young people and communities. Many people want to act sustainably but lack simple, interactive tools that show the impact of daily choices on the environment. Climate Buddy bridges that gap using AI-powered quizzes, interactive charts, and tips.

What it does

Climate Buddy helps users learn about climate change and sustainability through:

Interactive quizzes that test knowledge about energy, CO₂, and water usage

Dynamic charts showing CO₂ saved, energy saved, and water conserved

Progress bars and badges to gamify learning

AI tips for actionable steps to reduce environmental impact Users see their progress in real-time and understand how small actions create measurable environmental impact.

How we built it

We built Climate Buddy as a web app using:

HTML & CSS for structure and mobile-friendly design

JavaScript for interactive quizzes, AI tips, and chart updates

Chart.js for dynamic multi-metric visualizations

Simple gamification mechanics (progress bar, badges) to motivate users

All components are lightweight, run entirely in the browser, and require no backend or authentication, making it easy for anyone to use.

Balancing points and multi-metric calculations so charts accurately reflect impact

Designing a mobile-friendly UI that’s engaging but simple
