Inspiration
My primary aim is to delve into the intricate dynamics of climate change, examining its profound impact on temperatures, natural disasters, and the resulting economic consequences. I firmly believe that a comprehensive understanding of climate change not only equips us to confront its challenges but also paves the way for a brighter future for generations to come.
Furthermore, I am dedicated to scrutinizing the repercussions of climate change specifically within my homeland, India. Given the rapid growth of India's population, coupled with escalating urbanization and resource exploitation, it becomes imperative to grasp the implications of climate change in this context.
This endeavor serves as my contribution to social good for the EduHacks hackathon 2023. I am optimistic that this project will play a vital role in fostering awareness and concern regarding climate change, contributing to a collective effort toward sustainable and informed action.
What it does
Our project conducts exploratory data analysis to examine global climatic changes, with a specific emphasis on India. The centerpiece of our initiative is a user-friendly and customizable streamlit app, designed for effortless cloning, local modification, and seamless deployment by multiple users. The app features straightforward visualizations that illuminate the impact of climate anomalies, serving as a powerful tool to raise awareness about the deteriorating climate on Earth. Users can easily comprehend and engage with the data, fostering a broader understanding of the urgent need for climate action.
How we built it
We initiated our project with Kaggle for exploratory data analysis (EDA) and utilized available datasets. Employing numpy, sns, and matplotlib, we crafted impactful visualizations. Inspired by Chrome's globe experiments, we integrated a WebGL globe into a user-friendly HTML webpage. The analysis took shape in a streamlined streamlit app coded in Python, designed for accessibility. Seamlessly, we included a redirection link to the WebGL globe within the app. This approach ensures a cohesive and engaging user experience, allowing users to effortlessly navigate between analytical visualizations and an interactive globe.
Challenges we ran into
I was new to EDA, therefore, I had to understand the concepts from tutorials, article and online videos. Use of some of the plotting libraries was tricky and thus I had refer to online resources concerning those questions. WebGL globe seemed impossible to code at the beginning. However, with the help of existing resources and inspiration from chrome globe experiments, I was able to implement it.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I am proud to have successfully navigated the challenges encountered during the development of this project. Overcoming the initial learning curve in exploratory data analysis (EDA) and mastering the intricacies of various plotting libraries have been significant milestones. Implementing the WebGL globe, despite its initial complexity, showcases my determination and problem-solving skills.
What we learned
As I delved into the data and analyzed climate change impacts firsthand, I gained a deeper understanding of its consequences. This hands-on experience provided insights that go beyond theoretical knowledge, reinforcing the urgency of addressing climate change. Furthermore, the project allowed me to enhance my technical proficiency in Python and JavaScript, skills that will undoubtedly prove valuable in my future endeavors.
What's next for Climate Analysis and Visualization
Moving forward, the Climate Analysis and Visualization project can evolve in several ways. Firstly, expanding the geographical scope and depth of the analysis could provide a more comprehensive understanding of regional climate patterns. Additionally, incorporating real-time data sources and advanced machine learning models could enhance the accuracy and predictive capabilities of the analysis.
To broaden the project's impact, collaboration with environmental organizations, researchers, and policymakers could facilitate the integration of actionable insights into climate change mitigation strategies. Furthermore, developing educational modules or workshops based on the project could contribute to raising awareness at both local and global levels.
Ultimately, the goal is to foster a community of individuals passionate about addressing climate change, utilizing data-driven insights to drive informed decisions and sustainable actions. The journey doesn't end with analysis; it extends into the realm of advocacy and activism for a healthier planet.
