Inspiration
Inspired by the gap between climate awareness and real action and also the urgent need to turn climate awareness into action
What it does
The project is a software-based web application that calculates a user’s personal carbon footprint from daily activities and shows their overall impact level. It also provides personalized recommendations and climate tips to help users reduce their environmental impact.
How we built it
We built the project by first identifying the main problem of carbon awareness and narrowing it down to a simple, software-based solution. The system was broken into modules, starting with a carbon footprint calculator, followed by emission tracking and visualization. We used predefined emission factors to keep calculations simple and reliable. The application was created as a lightweight web platform, focusing on clarity, usability, and fast iteration to finish the project in one day
Challenges we ran into
The main challenges were managing time, keeping the scope realistic, simplifying emission calculations, and designing a user-friendly interface within a single day
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of delivering a functional prototype that clearly demonstrates the idea of carbon tracking and climate awareness within a limited time frame.
What we learned
Through this project, we learned to manage time effectively while building a complete software solution within a short deadline. We gained experience in breaking down a broad problem into manageable modules and implementing them efficiently. The project also helped us understand how data-driven approaches, including basic machine learning concepts, can improve carbon analysis and user insights. Overall, it strengthened our ability to prioritize features, collaborate, and deliver a functional product under time constraints.
What's next for Climate Action & Carbon Reduction
Moving forward, climate action and carbon reduction can gain from personalized, data-driven solutions that help individuals and organizations understand their environmental impact. Real-time data, analytics, and machine learning can improve carbon tracking and provide better recommendations for reducing emissions. Making this information easy to access and incorporating digital tools into daily decisions will support long-term sustainability
