Inspiration

Our passion for films and our desire to bring people together around a shared love for cinema inspired us to create a movie review website. By creating a platform where people can create and swipe movie cards, we aim to create a community of movie lovers who can connect with each other and discover new films to watch.

What it does

Clicking is a site that allows users to view the movie cards (reviews) of other users while having the option to message each other if a match occurs (both users like the same movie review).

How we built it

We used Figma to plan the layout and overall look of the website on the front end. This gave us a great roadmap for features to add one by one as we coded in Swelte.

Challenges we ran into

We ran into many challenges such as planning what to build and how to build it. We also struggled with using backend development for all the features we originally envisioned. As for front end, we struggled to make the website maintain high quality for the majority of screen sizes while working on time-consuming features.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We were able to make a very appealing website in such a short amount of time and with little experience. The project involved learning something new at every single step, whether it was to debug or implement a nice background. Our main goal is to use the limited time given to us by making something cool that could potentially be further expanded in the future.

What we learned

Throughout the development of Clicking, we learned Svelte, HTML, CSS, Javascript/Typescript, and how to make designs visually appealing. This project was a great opportunity for us to learn new technologies and coding possibilities during our first hackathon.

What's next for Clicking

We wish to create a more advanced matching algorithm to enhance user satisfaction, based on machine learning methods such as user clustering and classification.
