Inspiration
We love cybersecurity and also social media but lots of people like us don't know the consequences of clicking on malicious sites that content creators might give us sometimes.
What it does
It will use a Virus Total API and ZylaLabs Link Expander API for non-commerical usage that detects whether a site is malicious or not and can expand the link.
How we built it
Using the APIs which we added to the javascript, HTML and CSS code, we created a technological looking website that will appeal to users!
Challenges we ran into
As first timers, we were first too ambitious in thinking we could make a chrome extension that will automatically detect if sites are suspicious but it became challenging and the main API we wanted to use which was PhishTank had disabled their registration page so we could not continue with that and it was too hard to accomplish so we pivoted to making a website that
Accomplishments that we're proud of
In the last 24 hrs, there were only 2-3 of us working on the project so it was surprising that we managed to make a working project from the fixed time we were given. We're proud of ourselves for trying out things we've never done before and going up to mentors to ask questions and chat which was always super cool!
What we learned
We learnt a lot a lot about third-party public facing APIs and how to implement that into Javascript. We also learnt more about how to collaborate with others we didn't know before!
What's next for Click On My Bio
Hopefully we can continue to work on it or even try at the chrome extension again!
