Inspiration
Welcome to "Clever Meal," an innovative initiative that brings together the power of Machine Learning and Web Development to revolutionize the way restaurants manage food wastage and contribute to the betterment of society. Our mission is to create a sustainable and compassionate ecosystem where restaurants can predict their food requirements accurately and donate the excess food to NGOs, ensuring that no food goes to waste and that vulnerable communities receive much-needed support.
What it does
Our platform utilizes ML algorithms to analyze historical data from restaurants, considering factors like Type of Food,Event Type and location to predict the approximate amount of food required for the same. This helps restaurants to reduce wastage,cut costs and manage inventory.Further the system connects the restaurant and NGO convert the unserved food for needy people.
How we built it
For prediction purpose we applied ML algorithm (RandomForestClassifier) on given dataset and built the models.After deploying these models into webpages, the web-development team created all the interfaces using JavaScript and HTML.
Challenges we ran into
For the ML team, one of the biggest challenge was to understand the dataset as it was highly complex and unbalanced.Choosing the right algorithm is a crucial step in amy model building and so after exploring multiple ways we finally got the most optimum algorithm.Whereas, the web-development team struggled with linking all the interfaces as they were unaware of flask deployment.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Had great time working as a team and get adaptable to unfamiliar technologies such as Flask , html rendering and Javascript in a short time period as of 24 hours!
What we learned
Collaborating with a team and learning how to communicate and work effectively with others.Learned on how to think creatively and innovatively to come up with unique solutions which can solve real world problems.Technology for good is not only a good initiative, but can be a great one too.
What's next for Clever Meal
There are several next steps that can be taken to further improve and expand the this project. Some potential ideas include: It can be further improved to include an database for the website to work in real-world. They system is not exactly limited to restaurants, it can be used by users who frequently host big events which may otherwise produce a lot of wastage food. Also by food-deparments in hostels,offices and educational institutions(canteens).Ultimately, we are looking to throw a positive impact in the society using creative projects like this.
