Clementines

Find your culinary community using Clementine!

Through Clementines, we hope to foster an inclusive community where people can express their true selves through their love for cooking! This app will allow people to share and learn recipes from one another, post content related to the endeavor, and share stories about their culture along the way! This platform will not only allow people to come together through food, but also provide a free and accessible system for them to practice a skill or acquire a new hobby! Clementines allows people to learn about each other and their experiences, and cultivate a positive and encouraging society for everyone. We believe that creative expression is not only limited to performing arts but can be practiced through anything that is done with eagerness to experiment and grow. We realized cooking was a simple yet sophisticated skill that fit this category perfectly. As sophomores in college, the idea of cooking our own meals felt stressful, but the more we practiced the skill, the more we started enjoying it. The sheer excitement we felt when sharing the food we prepared with our friends and family was a feeling unmatched by no other. And hence we created Clementines.

While designing our app, we wanted to prioritize two things, the user’s preferences and simple navigation. Features on our app such as the search bar filters, tutorial videos, and recipe posts are specifically made to allow the user to establish a sense of belonging and find their community. We wanted to incorporate a navigation bar instead of a hamburger menu to both simplify the design layout and offer quick and easy access to all our main pages. The color palette on the other hand was inspired by the fruit clementine to be on brand with the app’s name. We chose colors that represented freshness and a summer feel to attract users based on the aesthetic. For fonts, we decided to incorporate more than 1 to avoid mundaneness. However, we do believe that this should be one of our improvements. It may have been a better choice to stick with a certain theme of fonts and font sizes to ensure that it is easy on the user’s eyes while navigating through our app. We made sure to include plenty of visuals and images to make our designs appeal to a larger audience. The use of our “chats” feature is essential for creating a sense of community and promotes our product as a social cooking app that is inclusive for all.
