Difficult workplace conversations can be stressful, especially for new managers and professionals learning to give feedback or set boundaries. ClearTalk gives users a place to practise their responses before having the real conversation.
What it does
ClearTalk contains three workplace scenarios:
- Addressing a missed deadline.
- Declining extra work when the team is overloaded.
- Setting boundaries around after-hours messages.
Each scenario has three conversation turns with three response choices per turn. Choices produce different prewritten reactions and affect clarity, empathy, and boundary scores.
After practising, users receive feedback explaining the consequences of their choices. They can retry the scenario and explore a different approach. The scores are based on authored scenario rules; they are learning aids, not validated psychological measurements.
How we built it
ClearTalk uses Expo SDK 57, React Native, Expo Router, and TypeScript. Scenario content and scoring run locally without an AI API or backend.
The missed-deadline scenario is free. The other two scenarios use RevenueCat’s premium entitlement for access control. The implementation includes offering retrieval, purchase and restore actions, loading states, cancellation handling, and error messages.
Challenges we faced
We resolved an Expo SDK mismatch, configured the development environment on an older Intel Mac, and repaired incomplete dependency installations. We also worked on making feedback specific to each choice while keeping the interface readable on a phone.
Accomplishments
We built a working mobile prototype with three complete scenarios, nine conversation turns, and 27 response choices. The core experience runs on a physical iPhone through Expo Go.
What we learned
A focused interaction can communicate a product’s value more clearly than a large feature list. We also learned how RevenueCat separates products, offerings, and entitlements, and why native purchase testing needs a development build.
Current status and next steps
The app has been tested through Expo Go. RevenueCat runs in Preview API Mode in that environment; a real Test Store transaction has not yet been verified. Store publication, revenue, and user traction are not claimed.
Our next steps are to test purchases in a development build, gather user feedback, and expand the scenario library.
