Inspiration

Accounts payable teams should not have to compare three PDFs by hand. I built ClearPacket because I wanted one screen that showed the disagreement before anyone approved the invoice.

What it does

ClearPacket puts a purchase order, supplier invoice, and delivery receipt into one review. Nutrient DWS extracts each file. The app compares the supplier, PO reference, quantities, unit prices, and totals.

If the values agree, there is nothing to review. If they do not, the app shows the conflicting numbers and asks the reviewer what should be paid. The decision is included in the exported audit record.

The demo packet has one deliberate error. The invoice bills 12 protective sleeves while the PO and delivery receipt show 10. ClearPacket catches the two-unit variance and its $18.40 impact.

How I built it

I used Nutrient Document Web Services through the Processor API. Each PDF goes through the JSON content extraction pipeline with plain text, structured text, key-value pairs, and tables enabled.

The server normalizes that evidence and compares it with TypeScript rules. Extraction and comparison are separate on purpose. Nutrient reads the files, but code decides whether quantities match and calculates the dollar difference. The interface records the reviewer's choice with the source filenames, values, checks, engine, and timestamp. Nutrient DWS then converts the record to PDF.

Problems I ran into

Extracting a document is not the same as checking it. The text can be read correctly while the relationship between three files is still wrong. I kept the raw extraction separate from the comparison so each result can be traced to a source value.

I also wanted the public page to stay honest when no API key is present. The supplied packet can use a clearly labelled demo result. Uploaded documents require the real Nutrient DWS pipeline, and the page states which engine produced the result.

What is working

  • The exact conflicting values are visible without opening three PDFs.
  • The $18.40 overage is calculated from two extra units at $9.20 each.
  • A reviewer chooses the payable quantity.
  • The decision and evidence can be exported together.
  • Nutrient DWS handles source extraction and the final audit PDF.

What I learned

The useful split is straightforward: let the document service read the files, let code handle the arithmetic, and leave the payment decision with a person.

What is next

  • Supplier and item tolerance policies
  • Duplicate invoice detection
  • Approval routing by dollar impact
  • ERP export after review
