Inspiration
We wanted to contribute an application that would be useful and possibly life-impacting. Mental disorders affect almost 5 million Canadians alone, and we decided to do something to help them retain some independence.
What it does
By using the Pebble smartwatch and the paired Android application, wearers with mental disorders can safely go about their daily routines without worrying about getting lost, or forgetting important information.
The Pebble will use the phone's GPS to notify the wearer if they stray too far from their designated 'safe-zone', and if the wearer doesn't go back into the zone within a certain time period, their emergency contact is notified.
As the Pebble only works if it is connected with the phone, if the wearer forgets to bring their phone with them the Pebble will vibrate and display a message letting the wearer know they forgot their phone, and their phone will ring until the wearer retrieves it (which also helps the user find the phone, in the event they have forgotten where they put it).
How we built it
We will be using Pebble & Android to develop the application.
