Inspiration

Students often receive vague or confusing instructions from professors, mentors, or teammates. They may struggle to understand what is expected, what information is missing, or what questions they should ask. We created ClearAsk to make unclear communication easier and help students move forward with confidence.

What it does

ClearAsk transforms vague instructions into clear next steps. It highlights unclear words, identifies missing information, generates questions for clarification, and creates ready-to-send messages. It also supports accessibility through dyslexia-friendly fonts, keyboard navigation, and read-aloud functionality.

How we built it

We built ClearAsk as a web application with a simple, user-friendly interface. The workflow helps users enter confusing instructions, review unclear parts, identify missing details, and prepare a message to request clarification. We focused on making the experience straightforward and accessible.

Challenges we ran into

One challenge was presenting confusing instructions in a way that users can quickly understand. We also wanted to keep the interface simple while providing useful features for different accessibility needs. Balancing simplicity, usefulness, and accessibility helped guide our design decisions.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud to create a practical tool that addresses a real communication problem faced by students. ClearAsk brings clarification questions, message writing, and accessibility features together in one place. The application is free to access and does not require users to log in.

What we learned

We learned that good technology should solve real problems without adding unnecessary complexity. We also learned the importance of accessibility, clear design, and helping users take the next step instead of leaving them confused.

What's next for ClearAsk

We plan to improve the quality of clarification suggestions, expand accessibility options, and gather feedback from students. Our goal is to make ClearAsk a reliable everyday tool that helps people understand instructions, communicate clearly, and complete tasks with greater confidence.
