Inspiration
Independent filmmakers often discover clearance questions late, when finding the relevant shot, forming the right research question, collecting credible evidence, and documenting a decision are slow and fragmented. ClearCut is designed to move that preparation earlier without pretending to replace an attorney, distributor, or errors-and-omissions reviewer.
What it does
ClearCut turns one short rough cut into a timestamped, cited clearance-preparation checklist.
The planned demonstration uses a newly created 30–45 second fictional commercial with exactly three review candidates:
- a fictional brand mark
- a factual claim
- an original music cue
Gemini identifies each candidate at an exact timestamp. The filmmaker selects a finding, a Google Cloud Agent Builder/ADK agent forms a focused research task, and Parallel Search runs live to retrieve source-backed evidence. The filmmaker then records a human decision: dismiss, investigate, replace, or license.
ClearCut organizes research and evidence. It does not make legal conclusions or declare that a film is cleared.

The entire evidence chain stays visible so filmmakers can understand the work and judges can verify that Gemini, Google Cloud agent orchestration, and Parallel are essential runtime components.

Design
The interface uses a calm, cinematic, Hollywood-inspired soundstage aesthetic: cool slate-blue and teal tones, warm practical highlights, and an uncluttered review flow. The original professional brunette presenter, fictional set, fictional marks, and music will be created with competition-permitted Google tooling.
Potential impact
ClearCut targets independent filmmakers and small production teams approaching final cut or distribution. These teams face real clearance and E&O preparation work but rarely have studio-scale legal operations. A focused evidence package can make downstream professional review more organized and efficient.
Current status
ClearCut is under active development for the Parallel track. The scope, architecture, public repository, and judging evidence plan are complete. Runtime implementation, the Cloud Run URL, screenshots, and the public YouTube demo will be added only after direct verification.
Safety and originality
The demonstration will use only newly created fictional media and competition-permitted tooling. ClearCut requires human review, preserves source links, communicates uncertainty, and never presents legal advice.
