Why it matters
Medical debt is the leading cause of personal bankruptcy filings. A large share of it is not care that was received — it is care that was billed twice, unbundled, or priced far above the regional median.
Where today's options fail
Advocacy firms take 25–35% of any savings and need weeks. Insurer audits protect the insurer's exposure, not the patient's deductible. Free bill 'explainers' summarise the text without checking a single coding rule.
OUR SOLUTION
Rules first, language model second — so every claim we make is defensible. A generative model alone will confidently invent a policy citation. ClearBill runs a deterministic engine over the parsed lines, then uses the model only to explain what the engine already proved.
Capture - Photo or PDF is parsed into structured line items: code, units, unit price, service date.
Verify - Deterministic rule engine applies bundling, duplicate, unit-cap and price-median checks.
Explain - Each flag gets a plain-language reason plus the regulation or edit it rests on.
Act - A dated appeal letter is drafted, sent, and tracked to a corrected statement.
