Inspiration
Many Android TV and Google TV users are bothered by preinstalled bloatware, annoying ads and limited customization. Most tweaks require root or complex ADB command lines, which are too hard for ordinary users. We wanted to build an easy graphical tool to clean and customize smart TVs safely over local Wi‑Fi, with no root needed.
What it does
CleanYourTV.AI is a cross‑platform companion app for Android TV, Google TV and Fire TV. It connects via network ADB to help users remove bloatware, block ads, back up/restore TV settings, and apply custom wallpapers and themes. A built‑in AI assistant guides users through setup and safe tweaks. It works on Windows, macOS and Android, with free core tools and a Plus subscription for advanced features. Fire TV has partial support.
How I built it
We use ADB over TCP/IP for local network communication with TVs. We developed GUI clients for Windows, macOS and an Android companion app, with LAN auto device discovery. We created curated safe tweak lists, backup & restore functions, theme modules, and an AI guide. Safety prompts and risk warnings are added to prevent system damage. A subscription system unlocks premium customizations.
Challenges I ran into
Android TV devices are heavily fragmented across brands. Permissions and available ADB commands differ a lot. It was tricky to make the setup simple for non‑technical users. Wrong tweaks could break the TV system, so we needed strict safety controls. Fire TV has many locked ADB features. Unstable home Wi‑Fi also frequently interrupted ADB connections.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
We converted complex ADB commands into an intuitive GUI without root. Auto network discovery saves users from manually entering IPs. The backup‑restore system lets users test tweaks safely. The AI helper makes TV modding accessible to beginners. We support Windows, macOS and Android, and keep core cleanup and ad‑blocking features free.
What I learned
The Android TV ecosystem is much more fragmented than mobile Android. Low‑level ADB operations need strong safety guardrails for regular users. AI works best as a guide to explain risks and steps, instead of making changes automatically. I also learned to design a freemium tool that balances free value and sustainable premium features.
