Inspiration

Throughout his life, my son has been on trash-picking trips, motivated by our shared responsibility for the environment. To encourage this positive behavior, we've rewarded him with points and other treats. As he's growing, like many kids, he has developed an interest in games. By gamifying this eco-friendly activity, not only could we enhance his enthusiasm, but we also have the potential to inspire more individuals to contribute to solving various environmental challenges.

What it does

The application requires users to set up an account, serving as a hub to monitor their positive trash-picking efforts. Upon entering the app, users are equipped with the ability to capture images of the trash they collect in their surroundings. Points are awarded each time users report that they have successfully gathered and disposed of trash.

Recognizing that progress is amplified through collective action, the app goes beyond individual efforts. Users can view and contribute to a global map showcasing trash bag icons at locations where people have actively participated in and reported trash-collecting deeds. Additionally, a worldwide leaderboard displays users' points earned through their commendable trash-picking activities.

To promote physical activity and maximize trash collection, users are encouraged to explore and collect virtual coins that spawn after each collected trash. This not only adds an element of exercise but also enhances their ability to gather more trash, fostering a sense of accomplishment and environmental impact.

How we built it

Using Flutter, firebase and appropriate frameworks. We also used a bought template to increase the speed of the project by a lot.

Time... We only learned about this competition a week ago.

What we learned

Sketches are really important for the overall project, but writing down Use cases / stories describing everything is also important.

What's next?

We're in the process of incorporating Google Wallet for point collection and redemption at various establishments. Additionally, we're actively developing new challenges such as recycling, using public transport, planting a tree, and more.
