Inspiration
Using modern technologies for an old problem we want to demonstrate the ease at which an issue like product deliveries and shipments that increases an organisation's carbon footprint can be offset.
What it does
Offsets carbon emissions but allowing large companies that go over their maximum threshold to be able to purchase carbon credits from projects that reduce emissions in their initiatives.
How we built it
Through a lot of planning and brainstorming, we have come up with a solution that an in an ideal world would significantly reduce everyone's carbon footprint
Challenges we ran into
- Potential ways in which companies could use the system to do more harm than good.
- Federal or Provincial government buy-ins to facilitate tax rebates for companies producing high emissions
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Created a novel system by combining existing technologies.
- Prototyping an app that caters to our needs and our client's.
- Creating a clear and concise presentation.
What we learned
Technology is all around us but it is up to us to figure out a way to use it to our advantage. Carbon offsetting could be the future where companies basically "invest" in carbon reduction projects therefore allowing flexibility for companies who are unable to reduce their emissions anymore than they already have.
What's next for CleanTrace
We basically want to envision a world where large and small industries care for the environment by buying carbon credits from carbon reduction projects while also having a little bit of room to be able to go over their maximum threshold to keep their effectiveness up. Therefore CleanTrace will give projects the incentive and the capital needed really make a difference in the environment.
