Inspiration
We've all seen that one X/IG post about someone who made a digital whip for Claude Code. It’s the coolest thing since sliced AI bread.
And we love bread.
So we wanted to bring that vision into real life, empowering all developers to maximize their output and 100000x their Vibe Engineering with the CLAUDE WHIP 9000!
What it does
THE CLAUDE WHIP 9000 is built to smoothly and effectively integrate into the existing development workflow.
It's simple: You want to code an app/website/program/virus/minifridge. You look at your empty Python file for 10 minutes. You tell Claude to get to work. Claude somehow deletes your C:\Windows\System32 folder even though you’re on Linux??? You activate the CLAUDE WHIP 9000. Claude writes your program, fixes your printer, makes you dinner, and takes the dogs for a walk. Good job Claude!
How we built it
We found a free monitor left out alone in the cold, no home, no family, and no place on UofT's desks. We gave it a new purpose, to become Claude's new home. The Claude Containment Chamber.
On the monitor we attached an ESP32 armed with the state-of-the-art Whip Detection AlgorithmTM, using a sound module to detect nearby vibrations, a Claude Emotion Communication System (CECS) - spinning servo with a dialogue box module - and an enterprise grade communication framework (a flask server on my laptop).
Oh… and the whip.
WE LOST 3 SOLDIERS ON OUR JOURNEY. We are forever grateful to the 3 servos donated to our mission by fellow hackers, they live on forever in our hearts, our memories, and in the knowledge that passing 10V Raw through a servo doesn’t end well.
Challenges we ran into
WHY IS CODING THE SMALL BLUE SERVOS SO HARD??? They are cheap, jerky, janky and have the stability of a middle school situationship. We had spent OVER 4 HOURS debugging just to find out that they were no longer on our mortal plane.
ASYNC vs. SYNC code: Especially in embedded hardware, it can get really complicated to send commands to hardware components while keeping a live connection with WIFI. Through enough tears to hydrate the Sahara we eventually realized that we can avoid multi-threading our code by carefully planning delays and ordering our function calls to prevent any conflict conditions.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We really enjoyed the hackathon! We had the opportunity to stray away from constant grind and Claude prompting, we bought high-quality hardware from reputable vendors (dollarama), and created a fully functional project that fulfilled everything we planned!
We also got really good at using whips.
We are proud that we were able to venture into the misty waters of hardware projects, where Claude is absolutely helpless.

What we learned
We will never touch a blue servo motor ever again. In fact, we are currently processing a restraining order on grounds of psychological damage.
The SPOON POWER SUPPLY VOLTAGE RATING IS A LIE. What the power supply says, is not what the power supply supplies. If it tells you 5v, CHECK IT, cause it could be 10 volts, it could be 100 volts, or it could just absolutely fry your servo and microcontroller.
