Inspiration
As a NEET dropper preparing for medical entrance exams, I spend hours studying with online tools — timers, random pickers, quick counters — and kept noticing how cluttered, ad-heavy, or sign-up-gated most of them were. Teachers face the exact same frustration on a bigger scale: they need something simple to pull up on a projector mid-class, not a bloated dashboard asking for an account. That gap became ClassPanel — a zero-budget attempt to build the clean, fast, no-signup alternative that didn't exist yet.
What it does
ClassPanel is a collection of free, instant-use web tools built for classrooms, study sessions, and everyday decisions — classroom timers, a random name picker with saved class rosters, a group generator, an exam timer, sensory/calming timers, clocks, a random number generator, dice and coin tools, and tally counters. Every tool works the moment you land on the page — no login, no account, no clutter — and is fullscreen-ready for projectors and smartboards.
How we built it
The entire site is a static, no-backend build: HTML/CSS/JavaScript with all user data (saved class lists, theme preference, timer presets) stored locally in the browser via localStorage — no database needed for the core experience. It's deployed on Cloudflare Pages for a fast global CDN, fully mobile-responsive, and structured as a Progressive Web App with service-worker caching so tools keep working even on spotty school wifi.
Every tool page is its own dedicated, SEO-optimized URL rather than being buried in a single-page dashboard, so each one can be discovered independently through search. Content and feature decisions were driven by real keyword research (Google Trends data) rather than guesswork — which surfaced that many of these tools are searched by a much broader audience than teachers alone (students studying solo, people meditating, content creators needing countdown timers), which reshaped the roadmap to serve both audiences on the same pages.
Challenges we ran into
Working with effectively zero budget meant every decision had to route through free tooling — free hosting, free domain-adjacent constraints, and free monetization paths (AdSense, affiliate links) instead of anything requiring upfront cost. On the technical side, an SEO audit surfaced real issues after launch — duplicate www/non-www indexing, broken canonical tags, and misconfigured index-page redirects — that had to be diagnosed and fixed post-deploy to avoid splitting search authority across duplicate URLs.
What we learned
Real usage data changes everything. Early keyword research revealed that "classroom timer" style tools have far more personal, non-classroom search demand (meditation, studying, decision-making) than expected — which meaningfully reshaped which features and content to prioritize. It also reinforced how much small technical SEO details (canonical tags, redirect handling) matter for organic-only growth strategies with no ad budget behind them.
What's next for ClassPanel
Planned next steps include a blog section targeting long-tail, audience-specific search queries; new tools identified directly from search-demand data (Rock Paper Scissors, standalone Coin Flip/Dice Roller, Color Picker); an optional (never mandatory) account system for cross-device sync of saved settings; and a private admin dashboard for content and analytics management — all built to preserve the site's core promise: instant, no-signup, distraction-free tools.
