Inspiration

Our team was inspired by the need for a platform where students can share their experiences and insights about different courses. We recognized the importance of a Rate My Professor-style platform tailored for the courses themselves. This inspiration led us to create a solution that empowers students to make more informed decisions when choosing their courses.

What it does

Our project, Classifier, is a web-based platform designed for students to provide and access reviews, ratings, and feedback on specific courses offered by educational institutions. It allows students to rate various aspects of a course, including the teaching quality, course materials, workload, and overall satisfaction. The platform also enables users to search and explore different courses based on their preferences, viewing detailed information and reviews contributed by their peers.

How we built it

We built the platform using a combination of front-end and back-end technologies. The front end was crafted using ReactJS, MUI, and CSS, ensuring a user-friendly and intuitive interface. For the back end, we utilized Supabase for efficient data management, storage, and retrieval. We integrated a robust database system to store course information, user reviews, and ratings.

Challenges we ran into

We had challenges with our first idea and then we had to start from scratch with a new idea. But it was a roller-coaster learning experience.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud to have successfully created a functional and user-centric platform that has the potential to significantly impact the educational journey of students. We've managed to implement a seamless review system, encouraging student engagement and fostering a community where knowledge sharing is paramount. Additionally, achieving an aesthetically pleasing user interface was a significant accomplishment for our team.

What we learned

Throughout the development process, we gained valuable insights into database management, UI/UX design principles, and the importance of creating a secure and reliable platform. We also learned the significance of community-driven platforms and the positive impact they can have on decision-making processes.

What's next for Classifier

In the future, we aim to expand the platform by including more features, such as personalized recommendations based on a user's preferences and past reviews. Additionally, we plan to collaborate with educational institutions to provide accurate and updated course information. Furthermore, we intend to implement features for discussions and Q&A sessions to enhance the overall user experience and provide a comprehensive resource for students to make informed decisions about their academic journey.
