Inspiration
Myself and my partner often found ourselves asking upperclassmen and other students their advice on what classes to take in our current college careers. To make this easier we decided to create a platform to solve this very problem and help college students further their academic careers and stay connected with others!
What it does
This application allows users to (at the moment) anonymously write reviews, by only providing their college's name and their major and be able to view reviews and contribute to writing reviews. The platform serves as a "go-to" when trying to see what exactly a particular class might be teaching and how peers similar to themselves would describe their experience themselves as many times we notice that other platforms tend to perhaps write fake reviews or go as far as only a source to look at a professors rating.
How we built it
We build this web application using React, Tailwind-CSS, and Firebase
Challenges we ran into
We weren't able to add the last portion of our project(interactive feed where users can view a feed for a particular class number, add buttons on the 3rd which would redirect to the feed page where you could contribute to a long list of reviews. We also faced challenges using Firebase as we weren't able to completely update our Firestore database with the data we were collecting
Accomplishments that we're proud of
This was our first hackathan and we are proud of the UI that we built using tailwind-css. Although we weren't crazy with our UI we had never worked with tailwind-css as much as we did during this event. We are also proud of creating/planning to create a application front->(to)->back.
What we learned
We learned that working together on the same thing can be hard as one can sometimes be dependent on the other to finish a certain portion of the web app or even be able to keep up with the changes being made by both teammates.
What's next for classcritic
We plan to hopefully be able to bring this idea to fruition, by being able to fully use Firebase, Host the site, and hopefully making incremental changes to where people will start to use our platform to help others and themselves as they go through their college years.
