Inspiration
We wanted a easier way to connect with our classmates, especially after having gone through classes where group work and group studying were crucial to success.
What it does
Built for college students, once you log in with Facebook and enter your classes, it will automatically match you with Facebook friends in your classes. It also provides a custom made Facebook messenger to easily connect and share class ideas and work with your newly found group.
How we built it
Using android studio to build the application, Class Connect uses the Facebook API, XML, and various android libraries for the front end and application graphics. Back end processing was built using JAVA and server applications were implemented using Parse.
Challenges we ran into
For front end development, it was difficult to implement all the material design elements. Back end development saw complications with the Parse server processing and various algorithms for sorting the classes and students.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Managing to get API calls to work and the various unique algorithms we used for sorting and back end processing. The Facebook API was especially challenging.
What we learned
Using material design, various android libraries, increased familiarity with Parse, and various algorithms.
What's next for Class Connect
We plan on wide scale release including building a website and a IOS application. We also plan on extending the functionality by using a larger host and more powerful server side processing. We plan on reworking some of the JAVA processing to a C based language for faster implementation.
