Inspiration
ClarkPool was born out of our personal challenges in organizing carpools for student events. We drew inspiration from academic papers, such as Kubicka et al. (2016), which investigated the performance of current eco-routing methods, to shape our solution.
What It Does
ClarkPool provides a tool for users to organize carpools for specific events. Our solution offers a backend for data management and a companion app that features environmentally conscious routing.
How We Built It
We constructed the backend using Python, while Swift was employed to build the companion app. Traffic data from TomTom and GIS information from Apple's MapKit library were utilized in our development process.
Challenges We Encountered
Our team grappled with finding a way for all members, who had varying experiences with the tools used, to contribute to the same codebase. Our solution divided the project, but both parts were successfully developed.
Accomplishments We're Proud Of
We're proud of completing the prototype iOS companion application and establishing the data structure for storing all trip details.
What We Learned
Our project allowed us to gain substantial knowledge about Swift and managing large amounts of custom data.
What's Next for ClarkPool
We plan to develop a website for using the backend management tool and extend support for the mobile application to Android devices.
