Inspiration
Diagnostic and Medication errors alone make up at least 44% of patient harm and injury; An incredible percentage from something so easily preventable. Clarity was designed to combat these errors with methods talked about in National Academy's Improving Diagnosis in Health Care. Patient Involvement.
What it does
Clarity is designed to facilitate patient understanding of the process- an informed patient is able to provide better feedback, and can better be diagnosed. Furthermore, many potential errors can be eliminated early on with patient communication.
Clarity allows medical professionals to share their notes with the patient after each appointment, and include descriptions for why the patient is receiving the medication they are. The patient is then able to log any side-effects they may feel from the medication, as well as have a log of current medications they are prescribed to. All these events are presented on a streamlined timeline that can be easily viewed at a later appointment for quick analysis.
How we built it
Using Node.js and Ant Design for a streamlined UI, the front-end was developed to be intuitive and comfortable for user navigation.
MongoDB was used for backend development for an optimized approach to data storage and retrieval.
Challenges we ran into
With little prior experience to this event, much of the technologies used were learned during the hackathon session.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
A functional site that does what is promised and more, with more functionality than we had originally envisioned for the project.
What we learned
Developing even a website can be potentially beneficial to industries if properly implemented. Furthermore familiarity with the involved technologies was increased greatly throughout the duration of the hackathon.
What's next for Clarity
Secure authentication for users as medical information is sensitive, and the ability to sort by hospitals, pharmacies, and more.
