My Story

A few years ago, my grandma was admitted to the hospital after suffering a severe brain injury. She survived, but afterward, speaking became incredibly difficult for her. Her thoughts were still there, but her words were hard to understand.

My mum, who spends a lot of time with her, slowly learned how to understand her. She picked up on patterns and sounds the rest of us couldn’t. For me and other family members, conversations were often confusing and heavy.

I noticed something about myself that made me uncomfortable. I mostly visited my grandma when my mum was there. When she wasn’t, I felt anxious. Not because I didn’t want to be there, but because I didn’t know how to connect with someone I love so deeply without understanding her. I leaned on my mum to translate, and without meaning to, I avoided being alone with my grandma. That distance felt painful and wrong.

That feeling stayed with me.

Clarity Connect

The idea for Clarity Connect was born from this feeling, and from my belief that while technology has quietly pulled us apart, it can also be shaped into something that brings us back to one another.

This prototype allows you to create a profile for your loved one and begin recording them as they speak. Over time, it learns their unique way of communicating. If a recording isn’t captured perfectly, you can edit the text, and the AI learns from those corrections. With each interaction, understanding improves.

It can help families stay connected with loved ones who have speech disabilities, and support medical and caregiving staff in understanding the people they care for.

What's next?
