Inspiration
In light of present day issues, such as global warming and child labor news, we were inspired to provide transparency from businesses on their practices in order to confront these issues. We wanted to utilize a tool ourselves where we are able to find information about the ingredient, and company all within a button
What it does
Transparency & Ethical Sustainability: Our product, Clarity, makes it easier for consumers to be conscious about their shopping habits, and choices. With so many products on the market, consumers are often unaware of their product's ingredients and manufacturing. Our widget is able to detect the product ingredients, sustainability, and ethical standards. These three categories are then reviewed based on “sub-topics”, and given an overall score. Addition to our widget, we also offer a “learn more” option where you can go to our website to browse products of your choice.
How I built it
Our team used Figma to design the various frames, and Instagram polls to gather user research.
Challenges I ran into
- User research was limited
- Having our product being a widget limits our capacity to store information so we had to think of alternative solutions such as having a website
- Drawing graphics from scratch proved to be more difficult than we anticipated. Our goal was to design everything ourselves, and while we were successful in doing so, more iterations are always better
- Wish we were able to add more frames for the ingredients besides only a frame for the ingredient "sulfate"
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
- We are proud of how great it looks in terms of UI, we really loved the design and putting our creative minds together to create a beautiful interface. The personal graphics we created for the website added to the brand we created, and accomplished a minimalistic yet clean look!
- Working together as a team seamlessly and improving each other with feedback and suggestions
- Having never done UX research before, we are proud of ourselves for utilizing our survey results, and coming up with a user persona
What I learned
- Communication is key in order to convey our different ideas and collaborate to fit our ideas together. Team work was was needed to create a cohesive design. We wouldn't have been able to make this product had we worked alone. -Designate who does what task, and don’t spend too much time on graphics
- Different methods of user research and first time conducting user research using Instagram polls and building user personas
What's next for Clarity
Clarity is just a prototype of what consumer transparency should look like. In the future, we hope to bring this widget to life by coding it. We also hope to conduct more surveys in various areas, and obtain a database that allows us to look at product manufacturing behind the scenes.
