Inspiration

Many people struggle to turn messy ideas into actionable plans. In hackathons, early-stage startups, and for aspiring writers, ideas often remain scattered in the head, unstructured, and hard to start building on. We wanted to create a tool that clarifies ideas instantly, providing structure and guidance so users know what to focus on next.

What it does

Clarifier is a lightweight AI-powered web app that helps users turn unstructured ideas into clear, actionable problem statements.

It takes a messy input and outputs:

  • Refined problem statement
  • Target users
  • Suggested solution direction
  • Key assumptions and risks It’s designed for hackathon teams, founders, students, and writers who need clarity before starting to build.

How we built it

  • Frontend: React + Vite
  • AI: LLM API for structured text generation
  • Hosting: c
  • Single-page UI with one input box and four output blocks for structured clarity The focus was on simplicity: one screen, one action β†’ instant structured output.

Challenges we ran into

  • Handling messy, incomplete inputs reliably
  • Designing prompts that produce consistent, readable, and actionable output
  • Building a working demo in under 5 hours while keeping it polished
  • Ensuring the output is useful without overcomplicating the interface

Accomplishments that we're proud of

-Created a fully functional, deployable prototype in <5 hours

  • Designed a tool that instantly transforms scattered ideas into actionable guidance
  • Made a clear, single-screen UI that is easy for anyone to understand
  • Built a flexible AI-powered system that can be extended for writers, developers, and hackathon teams

What we learned

  • Prompt design is critical for structured, useful AI output
  • A small, focused MVP can still demonstrate real-world value
  • Simplicity in UX helps users understand and trust the tool immediately
  • Even short hackathon projects can show originality, technical depth, and impact

What's next for Clarifier

  • Add industry-specific templates (writing, startups, education)
  • Export structured outputs to PRDs, pitch decks, or outlines
  • Support team collaboration and version history
  • Integrate confidence scoring for problem clarity
