Inspiration
In our communities, we found that our peers oftentimes complained about a variety of modern policy issues, but weren't civically engaged very much. Our project aims to give our peers the tools and ability to have their voices be heard and to create a positive change on their communities.
What it does
It consolidates and restructures important voter information and the registration process to make it more intuitive and cohesive. By eliminating bureaucratic frustration and confusion, we hope to increase youth voter retention.
How we built it
We built it using SwiftUI to create an app optimized for iPhone nativity which is especially important considering that modern registration forms aren't built for mobile device usage.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into some issues debugging and with some actual implementation of our project. However, we were ultimately able to persevere through and complete the project.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're particularly proud of implementing an alternative registration form, as it was one of the greatest advantages of our application compared to others, but also was one of the more difficult components to design.
What we learned
We ultimately learned how important using the same syntax was in our code to ensure that we were able to collaborate on the project effectively.
What's next for Project Turnout
We are considering doing more work on this project to ship to the iOS App Store and perhaps even porting it to AndroidOS so that we can maximize availability for users across the US.
