Inspiration
As someone who has volunteered as a State Courts Represenative before, I have seen first-hand how the CJTS system can be hard to navigate for laypersons. Additionally, requiring court users to come down to receive assistance can be a huge hassle for those that have many other committments to attend to, and they might not have all the necessary documents ready for filing even if they choose to come down, requiring them to come down on another occassion to file their claims. We hope to bring a tool that plugs this gap.
What it does
ClaimReady is a preparation companion for the pre-filing and case-preparation stage. It helps to guide the user throughout the whole process of filing a claim. Firstly, it collects the user's story and case details. Then extracts the important facts from the data presented. It identifies possible contradictions, as well as missing information that may require follow-up clarification questions. Lastly, it suggests useful records to gather, such as contracts, screenshots, dates and receipts. It answers all the questions using officialt Singapore Courts sources with citations, so that the user can look for more information from the credible sources.
How we built it
We used React for our application together with AWS Services. The diagram below shows the architecture of our entire application. Our website is hosted on AWS Amplify for users to interact with. With other AWS Services such as API gateway, Lambda, Bedrock, and S3 to assist in the core feature of our website such as LLM.
Challenges we ran into
As the CJTS website went down during the time we were trying to do our project, it was hard to gather the data on certain pain points in the filing process. Fortunately, we had notes taken down from our prior stint as State Courts Representatives, as well as past feedback given by us on the system. We used that to identify key areas that users found particular difficulty in. Additionally we had to find all the credible sources that are required to answer any of our users' queries. This required a deep dive into the different information assessible to the public.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of being able to make a comprehensive filing assistant in such a short period of time. Our assistant walks through the whole process with the user and is efficient in flagging out preliminary documents in which the user is lacking.
What we learned
We learned how to scope down on what are the problems we are trying to address, as well as the potential solutions that can solve these issues. We learned to design a system that is user friendly, and does not use complicated legal terms.
What's next for ClaimReady
We hope to be able to push this assistant forward and be able to ensure that it can be streamlined into the court system.
