Inspiration
As a licensed insurance advisor (PAS), I see the same thing at every claim: the policyholder arrives lost. They don’t know if they have coverage, they don’t know if they’re doing things right, and they almost never have purchase receipts for their belongings — which is exactly the strongest proof document we’re going to ask for. Very few people ever update photos of their assets in their policy.
But there’s something deeper: those photos and documents should belong to the person, not the insurer. The insurance company should ask you “do you have proof of that item?” — not have permanent access to an inventory of everything you own. It’s a matter of privacy.
When I understood the capabilities of the UGREEN AI NAS — local processing, no cloud, no third parties — I saw an immediate match with this problem.
What it does
claim-ready is an AI Skill that runs on your UGREEN AI NAS and turns your locally stored photos and documents into a claim file ready to present to your insurance company.
It scans your asset photos, extracts key data from invoices and warranties (serial number, purchase date, estimated value), and generates a structured report exactly the way a claims adjuster needs it. All without a single file leaving your home.
How we built it
I learned the UGOS ecosystem, the Uliya Skill Development Standard, and the NAS capability scope in a matter of hours. I built it by chaining three native NAS capabilities: Files to locate relevant assets, Albums to organize photos by room or item category, and Documents to extract key information from invoices and warranties. The flow ends in an actionable report.
Built with Claude using the official UGOS Skill Creation Tool — one of the three officially supported assistants on the platform.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest challenge was learning the entire ecosystem in a very short time: the Uliya standard, the available capabilities, the format constraints. But clarity came when I stopped thinking about the technology and asked myself: in what domain do I have deep expertise where the NAS creates real value that the cloud cannot? The answer was immediate.
Accomplishments that we’re proud of
Designing the report output based on real claims process knowledge — not what seems useful, but what a claims adjuster actually needs to approve a claim. That can only come from someone who knows the process from the inside.
What we learned
That local AI capabilities on the NAS are uniquely valuable for sensitive personal data use cases. Privacy isn’t a secondary feature — in insurance, it’s the central argument. No one should have to upload photos of their belongings to the cloud just to be covered.
What’s next for claim-ready
I want to keep developing claim-ready beyond the hackathon. The next step is integrating it into the workflow of insurance advisors as a tool for their clients — and eventually building it into a product for the insurance distribution channel across Latin America.
