Inspiration

Sometimes, we all need something, anything to do to prevent us from going insane, or at least to help calm us down a little bit. That's why fidget spinners have been shown to actually boost attentiveness in children with ADHD. As someone who often finds myself needing to fidget with something, I decided to make an app for this very purpose.

What it does

The app allows you to rapidly click anywhere on the screen, playing soothing keyboard sounds with each click. The brain has been shown to perceive keyboard sounds as calming, so they are most effective for the purpose of this app. And besides, are you even a programmer if you don't like clicky keyboards?

How we built it

This app was built using Java and XML in Android Studio. I used Cherry MX Blue key sound effects downloaded directly from the official Cherry MX website. Building this project was worth it just for those sound effects if I'm being honest.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I'm proud of the concept itself, as I think it's relatively novel. I also really like the small easter eggs that make the app more immersive, such as letters lighting up and moving around with a certain number of clicks. Even if the app doesn't win this hackathon, I think I would like to use it myself.

What's next for Clackity

I would like to publish Clackity on the Play Store and hopefully it can help other people to manage stress, anger, and excess energy.
