Helping Hands is a communication device for locating emergency shelters and community services. This real-time application provides instant access to resources and assistance. Developed as a web based application with a mobile component, the tool enables agencies to communicate with each other directly and on demand, while serving as a trading post for resources. Through the use of technology and automation, Helping Hands expands its capacity and reach.
At a click of a button or a tap of a finger, agencies and communities can connect to help and uplift those in need. This powerful network includes resources that provide housing, utility, employment, education, counseling, medical and behavioral healthcare assistance. Helping Hands creates resource visibility for families, adults, teens, and children from any demographic via the mobile component. Additionally, the network provides greater exposure for more services geared towards veterans and persons with disabilities.
Helping Hands connects and enables information sharing that enhances our ability to serve those in great need and, in the process, build a stronger community.
While developing the application we were initially distracted by the data, but ultimately chose to build an application that bridges a communication gap that exists today. Future versions of Helping Hands would include agency profile expansion that would allow for a better matching of services.
