Inspiration
In India, many government schemes and public services are available for citizens, but most people are not able to use them properly. The main reason is that the information is often written in complex language, spread across different websites, and difficult to understand for common users.
While talking to people around me, I noticed that even educated citizens are confused about eligibility, required documents, and application steps. This inspired me to build CivicSense AI-a simple solution that explains everything in clear and easy language.
What it does
CivicSense AI is a multilingual AI assistant powered by ERNIE AI that helps citizens understand government schemes, legal rights, and public services through natural conversation.
Users can ask questions like:
- Which schemes are available for students or farmers?
- Am I eligible for a specific government scheme?
- What documents are required to apply?
- What are my basic legal rights?
The assistant responds in simple, conversational language and supports multiple languages, making information more accessible to everyone.
How I built it
The core intelligence of CivicSense AI is built using ERNIE AI, which helps in understanding user queries and generating accurate, context-aware responses. Government scheme data is structured and processed so the assistant can explain it clearly.
A simple front-end interface allows users to interact with the assistant just like a chat application. The backend handles user queries, processes them using ERNIE AI, and returns meaningful answers in an easy-to-understand format.
Challenges I ran into
One of the main challenges was converting complex government information into simple explanations without losing accuracy. Another challenge was handling different types of user questions, as people may ask the same question in many different ways.
Ensuring the responses remain clear, relevant, and user-friendly was also a key focus during development.
What I learned
Through this project, I learned how to effectively use ERNIE AI for real-world problem solving. I also gained experience in designing AI-driven systems that focus on accessibility and user experience rather than just technical complexity.
Most importantly, I learned how AI can be used to create social impact by making important information easily available to everyone.
What's next for CivicSense AI
In the future, CivicSense AI can be expanded with:
- Voice-based interaction
- WhatsApp or mobile app integration
- More regional language support
- Direct integration with official government APIs
This project has the potential to become a practical tool that empowers citizens and improves access to public services.
