Civics Quiz Game

Inspiration

The Civics Quiz Game was inspired by the need to make civic education more engaging and accessible, especially for young people in Nigeria. Many people know basic facts about government and citizenship, but learning them through traditional methods can sometimes feel difficult or boring. I wanted to create a simple game that turns civic learning into an interactive experience.

What it does

Civics Quiz Game is an interactive Nigerian civics quiz that allows players to test their knowledge of citizenship, government, rights, responsibilities, and national affairs.

The game includes timed multiple-choice questions, a scoring system, percentage and grade results, progress tracking, best-score tracking, sound effects, dark mode, and a final result screen. Players receive immediate feedback and can challenge themselves to improve their score.

How I built it

I built the project using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. The questions and game logic are handled with JavaScript, while HTML provides the structure and CSS creates the user interface.

I also added features such as a countdown timer, score calculation, progress bar, sound effects, dark mode, and a responsive interface so the game can work well on mobile devices.

The project is hosted online using GitHub Pages, making it easy for anyone to access and try the game from a web browser.

Challenges

One of the biggest challenges was building and testing the game on a mobile phone while making sure the interface worked correctly on different screen sizes. I also had to debug issues involving the timer, scoring, navigation, sound effects, and result display.

Another challenge was making the game simple enough for beginners while still making it enjoyable and useful as a learning tool.

What I learned

Through this project, I improved my practical skills in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, debugging, GitHub, and web deployment. I also learned that building a complete project requires more than writing code — it requires testing, identifying problems, improving the user experience, and continuously learning.

Future improvements

In the future, I would like to add more questions, Hausa and Arabic language support, user accounts, online leaderboards, more levels, and a larger civic education question bank.

My goal is to continue improving Civics Quiz Game into a useful educational platform that makes learning about Nigerian citizenship more interactive and accessible.
