Inspiration
Every day, people see potholes, overflowing garbage, damaged roads, and broken streetlights, but many of these problems remain unnoticed or take too long to get reported. We wanted to build a simple way to identify these issues and make civic reporting smarter.
What We Built
CivicLens AI is an AI-powered civic issue detection and reporting platform. It uses computer vision to identify problems such as potholes, overflowing garbage, damaged roads, and broken streetlights.
The platform provides a modern dashboard where users can view detected issues and organize civic reports in one place.
How It Works
Users can upload or capture an image of a public area. CivicLens AI analyzes the image using AI and identifies potential civic problems. The detected issue can then be organized into a report, making it easier to communicate problems to the appropriate authorities or community organizations.
Challenges
One of the biggest challenges was designing an experience that could make AI-powered detection useful for real-world civic problems. We also focused on creating a clean interface that makes detected issues easy to understand and manage.
What We Learned
We learned that AI can be much more impactful when it is connected to everyday problems. Building CivicLens AI helped us explore computer vision, AI-powered detection, dashboard design, and how technology can improve community participation.
What's Next
We want to expand CivicLens AI with more types of civic issue detection, location-based reporting, real-time notifications, severity analysis, automated authority routing, and smarter AI models.
Our goal is to turn CivicLens AI into a platform that helps communities identify problems faster and makes cities more responsive.
