Inspiration

Cities face everyday civic issues like potholes, overflowing garbage, broken streetlights, and damaged roads, but reporting and tracking them is often slow and inefficient. We wanted to create a simple AI-powered platform that empowers citizens to report problems quickly while helping local authorities prioritise and resolve issues faster. CivicLens AI was built to bridge the gap between communities and city management through technology.

What it does

CivicLens AI is an AI-powered civic issue reporting platform that enables users to report infrastructure problems with ease. Users can submit reports, track their status, and view analytics through a modern dashboard. The platform helps organise reports, provides insights into issue trends, and encourages faster resolution by making civic data accessible and actionable.

How we built it

We built CivicLens AI using Next.js, React, and TypeScript for the frontend, creating a responsive and modern user interface. Authentication was implemented for secure access, while a structured dashboard provides analytics and report management. We focused on clean UI/UX, reusable components, and scalable architecture to ensure the platform is ready for future AI and cloud integrations.

Challenges we ran into

One of the biggest challenges was designing a dashboard that was both visually appealing and easy to use. We also spent significant time optimising responsiveness across devices, organising data effectively, and integrating multiple features into a seamless user experience while working within the hackathon timeline.

Accomplishments that we're proud of Built a complete end-to-end civic reporting platform within the hackathon. Designed a clean, modern, and responsive user interface. Developed an interactive analytics dashboard for monitoring reports. Created a scalable architecture that can support future AI-powered features. Demonstrated how technology can improve communication between citizens and local authorities. What we learned

This project strengthened our skills in full-stack web development, UI/UX design, and building scalable applications under time constraints. We also learned the importance of solving real-world problems through user-centred design, rapid prototyping, and effective teamwork.

What's next for CivicLens AI

Our next goal is to integrate AI image recognition to automatically identify civic issues from uploaded photos, implement real-time notifications, add GIS-based location mapping, and build an admin portal for municipalities. We also plan to launch a mobile application, introduce multilingual support, and partner with local governments to enable real-world deployment and create smarter, cleaner cities.
