Inspiration
Urban areas often suffer from civic issues like potholes, broken roads, garbage dumps, and damaged infrastructure. Many of these problems remain unresolved because citizens do not have an easy way to detect and report them to the responsible authorities.
The idea behind CivicEye AI was to create a simple AI-powered platform where a citizen can just upload an image of a civic problem and instantly get an analysis of the issue along with guidance to report it. Our goal is to make cities safer by enabling faster detection and reporting of public hazards.
What it does
CivicEye AI is an AI-powered civic safety detection platform that analyzes images of urban environments and identifies potential hazards such as potholes, garbage piles, and damaged roads.
The system provides:
- Hazard detection from uploaded images
- AI risk level analysis
- Responsible authority suggestions
- AI-generated complaint text
- Chatbot assistance for civic queries
- Optional live camera hazard detection
This helps citizens quickly understand civic problems and take action.
How we built it
The platform was built using modern web technologies and AI APIs.
Frontend: HTML, CSS, and JavaScript were used to create a responsive and modern user interface with animations and typing effects.
AI Integration: Google Gemini API is used to analyze images and generate detailed civic hazard reports.
Features implemented include:
- Image upload and AI analysis
- AI risk level indicator
- Complaint generator
- Chatbot assistant
- PDF complaint download
- Modern animated UI
Challenges we ran into
One of the biggest challenges was integrating AI image analysis and generating structured responses that are easy for users to understand.
Another challenge was designing a user-friendly interface that clearly presents hazard detection results and suggested actions.
We also worked on optimizing prompts so that the AI produces consistent and meaningful civic safety analysis.
What we learned
During this project we learned how to integrate AI APIs with web applications, design prompt structures for better AI responses, and build modern interactive user interfaces.
We also gained experience in solving real-world civic problems using AI technology.
What's next for CivicEye AI
Future improvements include:
- Real-time hazard detection using live camera feeds
- Automatic complaint submission to municipal portals
- GPS-based authority detection
- Mobile app version
- City-level civic issue heatmaps
