Inspiration

Civic Score was inspired by everyday issues in cities like poor cleanliness, slow civic responses, and the lack of clarity around how well a locality is actually performing. Complaints exist, but there is no simple way to see overall civic performance in one place.

What it does

Civic Score measures and scores urban cleanliness and civic service performance. It combines citizen inputs and basic service indicators into a single, easy-to-understand score that highlights problem areas and tracks improvement over time.

How we built it

The project is built around a simple point-based system. Different civic factors such as cleanliness, response time, and service quality are scored and combined into one overall value: [ \text{Civic Score} = \sum_{i=1}^{n} w_i \times s_i ] where (s_i) is the score for each factor and (w_i) represents its importance. A basic prototype dashboard displays this score so issues can be identified quickly.

Challenges we ran into

One of the biggest challenges was deciding fair and unbiased scoring parameters. Another challenge was keeping the system simple while still making it meaningful. Working at an early stage with limited resources also required careful prioritization.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We successfully designed a clear scoring framework and built an early prototype that turns scattered civic data into a single usable metric. Creating something understandable for both citizens and authorities has been a major achievement.

What we learned

This project taught us how civic systems work at the ground level and how structured data can support better decisions. We also learned the importance of simplicity, neutrality, and clarity when building tools for public use.

What's next for Civic Score

Next, we plan to improve the scoring model, expand data inputs, and test the system through small pilot use cases. The goal is to refine Civic Score into a practical tool that cities can realistically adopt.
