Inspiration
Cities struggle with day-to-day civic issues — potholes, garbage, drainage leaks, broken streetlights — and most citizens don’t know whom to contact or what happens next after reporting.
We wanted to build a transparent communication bridge between citizens and local authorities, ensuring every civic issue gets the attention it deserves. Our goal is to make cities smarter by making public participation simple, trackable, and impactful.
What it does
Civic Pulse is a crowd-sourced civic issue reporting and resolution system with:
👥 Three Roles:
Citizen – Report issues with photos, videos, voice & location
Admin – Verify, prioritize & assign issues
Field Officer – Resolve problems & upload proof
✨ Key Features:
Real-time status tracking Before/After image comparison Heatmap visualization for Admin Gamification with citizen reward points Feedback and rating after completion Approval workflow for new officers/admin signups Smooth UI and mobile-friendly design It ensures a complete closed-loop workflow: Citizen → Admin → Field Officer → Citizen (Feedback)
How we built it
Built entirely using Base44 AI No-Code Platform Used built-in authentication for role-based access control Used Base44 database for: Issue submissions & statuses Media file handling User rewards & feedback Integrated GPS maps & heatmap visualization for analysis Used AI Builder Chat for UI refinements and workflow automation We focused on a one-day hackathon timeframe to deliver a fully functional prototype.
Challenges we ran into
Handling three role logins and route protection Ensuring only admins can approve new officers/admins Implementing a realistic workflow without writing code Testing media uploads (images, videos, voice notes) Creating a polished UI within limited time But solving these made our system more robust and realistic.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
A complete working system built in one day Successfully implemented real municipal workflow Fully responsive and clean user interface Heatmap analytics for smart city planning Gamification & feedback loop for citizen engagement This isn’t just a prototype — it’s something cities can actually deploy.
What we learned
How to build end-to-end applications using Base44 AI Role-based access control & approval mechanisms Smart city application problem-solving approach Team collaboration and rapid prototyping under time pressure We realized that no-code platforms can deliver real impact quickly
What's next for Civic Pulse
Future enhancements planned: AI image recognition (auto-category & severity detection) Duplicate issue detection and issue clustering Multi-language support for better accessibility Push notifications to improve communication Analytics dashboard for city-wide decision making Integration with government departments & toll-free hotlines Our vision: A connected city where every citizen can help make the city safer, cleaner, and smarter.
