Inspiration
Every day, citizens face civic issues like potholes, garbage overflow, broken streetlights, and other infrastructure problems. However, reporting these issues is often slow, unclear, and lacks proper follow-up. This inspired the idea of building a simple platform that bridges the gap between citizens and local authorities for faster problem resolution.
What it does
Civic Fix Finder allows users to report civic issues by submitting details such as location, description, and images. These issues are stored in a centralized system where they can be tracked through different stages (e.g., pending, in progress, resolved). The platform improves transparency and makes it easier for authorities to manage and respond to public complaints.
How we built it
We built Civic Fix Finder using a full-stack web development approach. The frontend handles user interaction for submitting and viewing reports, while the backend manages data storage and issue tracking. The application is deployed using Replit, allowing instant hosting and easy access through a public link.
Challenges we ran into
One of the main challenges was designing a simple yet effective system for reporting and tracking issues. Structuring the flow of data between users, issue status updates, and backend storage required careful planning. Another challenge was keeping the UI clean while still including all necessary features.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We successfully built a working end-to-end platform that demonstrates a real-world solution for civic issue management. The system is functional, accessible online, and provides a clear workflow from issue reporting to resolution tracking.
What we learned
While building this project, we learned how to design and develop a full-stack application, manage user-generated data, and structure a system focused on real-world problem solving. We also improved our understanding of deploying and sharing applications using cloud platforms like Replit.
What's next for Civic Fix Finder
Future improvements include adding AI-based issue categorization, real-time notifications, a map-based issue tracking system, and direct integration with local government authorities. We also plan to enhance the UI and make the platform mobile-friendly for wider accessibility.
