Inspiration

CIVIC.AI was inspired by common civic problems such as potholes, garbage overflow, drainage issues, and broken streetlights. Citizens often struggle to report these issues to the correct department. I wanted to use AI to make civic reporting simpler, faster, and more accessible.

What it does

CIVIC.AI uses AI to analyse uploaded images of civic problems, identify the issue, assess its severity, recommend actions, and suggest the concerned department. It also supports complaint report generation, complaint record storage, an AI chatbot, and email notifications.

How we built it

I built CIVIC.AI using Python and Flask for the backend, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for the frontend, and SQLite for database management. Google Gemini AI powers image analysis, Pillow handles image processing, and the Resend API supports email notifications.

Challenges we ran into

Some challenges included improving AI response accuracy, handling different image formats, integrating email notifications, and selecting the correct department for each issue. I addressed these by improving AI prompts, using Pillow for image handling, integrating the Resend API, and implementing department-wise mapping.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I am proud to have combined AI image analysis, civic issue classification, severity assessment, department selection, complaint generation, and email notifications into one platform. CIVIC.AI demonstrates how AI can be applied to a practical, real-world problem.

What we learned

Building this project helped me improve my skills in AI integration, prompt engineering, Python, Flask, database management, image processing, API integration, and debugging. I also learned how to connect different technologies to build a complete application.

What's next for CIVIC.AI

I plan to add real-time complaint tracking, an interactive map of civic issues, duplicate complaint detection, and an authority analytics dashboard. Future improvements will include multilingual voice assistance, before-and-after repair verification, and an AI agent to guide users throughout the complaint process.
