Ciucciarella

Inspiration

The film draws from the traditional Corsican lullaby Ciucciarella, whose simple imagery — goats on the hills, a dove’s nest, a mother spinning cloth — hides a deeper emotional undercurrent. I expanded these fragments into a Wakanda-inspired Berber kingdom, a place where ancestral rituals and futuristic elegance coexist. The goal was to reveal the “secret between the lines” of the lullaby: the devotion of a mother, the innocence of a child, and the silent wound of an absent father.

What it does

The film transforms the lullaby into a mythic coming-of-age tale woven with tenderness and suspense. We follow the little princess as she wanders through the vast palace, climbs sunlit terraces, explores enchanted gardens, and dreams of the father she barely remembers. Through carefully composed visual clues — royal armor kept hidden, murals depicting ancient battles, whispered rituals — the viewer slowly understands the truth long before the child does. The climax reveals the king’s heroic sacrifice in a fantastical war, binding the family’s love to the future of the kingdom.

How we built it

Challenges we ran into

The greatest challenge was honoring the softness of a lullaby while unfolding a hidden tragedy. We needed to keep the emotional tone gentle even as the narrative moved toward grief. Balancing Berber cultural inspiration with mythic abstraction required precision: the world had to feel both real and legendary. And finally, expressing a child and her mother longing without dialogue meant relying almost entirely on symbolic imagery and musical intuition.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We created a world that feels vast yet intimate, where royal mythology and maternal love coexist in the same breath. The final reveal of the king’s sacrifice resonates emotionally without betraying the lullaby’s tenderness. The film stands out as an ode to resilience, heritage, and the quiet heroism of everyday care — all rooted in Corsican tradition but blooming into a global myth.

What we learned

We deepened our understanding of how lullabies contain hidden stories, emotional echoes that can unfold into full cinematic universes. We explored new ways of blending North African inspiration, Afrofuturist aesthetics, and Corsican musical heritage into a coherent visual language. The project refined our technique for storytelling through atmosphere, rhythm, and symbols rather than dialogue.

What's next for Ciucciarella

Later, it should be integrated into a live orchestral and visual performance, where myth, music, and memory merge into an immersive experience dedicated to Corsican heritage.
