Inspiration## Inspiration

We wanted to build a localized platform tailored specifically for Indore (like the Vijay Nagar area) to help neighbors connect, support local businesses, and resolve civic complaints fast. The goal was to bridge the gap between community discussion and real-time local utility.

What it does

CityTalk is a community-driven web application featuring:

  • A Live Activity Simulator to instantly broadcast community interactions and test banner alerts/unread badges.
  • A searchable Community Feed filtered by categories like All Activity, Locals Connect, Local Promotions, and Society Issues.
  • Real-time tracking for urgent neighborhood issues (such as a water crisis in Nehru Nagar).

How we built it

The application is built on a modern web stack and designed for optimal scalability:

  • Frontend: Built with a clean, scannable user interface deployed seamlessly on Vercel.
  • Backend & Database: Integrated with robust data management and synchronization capabilities ("Sync DB").

Challenges we faced

  • Implementing seamless, real-time reactive state management for active banner alerts and simulated community interactions without degrading UI performance.
  • Structuring the localized feed filtering system to correctly scoped categories like civic alerts, structural updates, and complaints.

What we learned

  • Hands-on experience optimizing frontend deployment pipelines for fast, responsive web tools.
  • The importance of clean, intuitive navigation when designing localized civic tech platforms.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Built a working Gemini-powered hyperlocal community platform with local feeds, verified services, and AI-generated neighborhood summaries within a hackathon timeline.

What's next for CityTalk

Add real-time alerts, maps integration, smarter AI recommendations, and stronger verification to evolve CityTalk into an AI-powered local community ecosystem.
