Inspiration
Getting stuck at a red light at night when there are no other cars, as well as the TedTalk by Gary Lauder "New traffic sign takes turns".
What it does
We use the CityIQ traffic camera sensor to detect when a car is approaching a light and trigger a change to green when there are no other cars around so that the car does not have to stop and re-accelerate and/or idle at the light.
How we built it
We used the CityIQ python example to access the Rest API of CityIQ to get historical data and we used the Websocket to get live information on traffic.
